The Process
DFC has worked for years to develop an integrated, seamless process to make your home remodel come to life in the most efficient and creative manner. Here is our 3 stage process.
Phase 1: Design/Pricing
After being hired, we will measure the relevant parts of your home, and input it into our CAD system. Our design team will work on options, and within 2-3 weeks we will sit down with you and review 5-10 options. Because design is so “inexpensive” and construction is so “expensive” we believe in fully vetting options at this in-expensive stage. We give you the time you need to review them, and usually customers come back wanting to combine their favorite elements of various designs. We do our best to meld this into one coherent design, do an electrical/lighting plan, and schedule a pricing walk-through with all the necessary sub-contractors and our own estimating team. This is an in-house walk-through where everyone looks at the house, and plans, asks relevant questions, and gets pricing back to us for the specific work detailed in the plans. We combine that with the DFC work (all carpentry, done with our direct employees), and produce for you a detailed document that describes the work proposed, and the price for it. If you accept this price, we move on to the next phase.
Phase 2: Dotting The I's
Our middle phase is where all the details are resolved. This involves a few different elements.
Upon client acceptance of the bid, we assign a super to the job, who gets involved in meetings and decisions as they develop. Our goal is to have a super fully integrated into the project by the time we start. We select a start of construction date that we all can work towards, and a detailed construction schedule.
Our detail coordinator develops a decision list, and forwards it to the client, along with a list of suggested vendors and sale-persons, and clients start reviewing and selecting tile, plumbing fixtures, door knobs, countertops, etc. Our goal is to have everything selected before the job starts.
At the same time, our design team produces any additional drawings necessary, including detailed kitchen elevations, shop drawings, and modifies the finished plans as necessary as decisions are made.
Phase 3: Construction
The fun begins! Permits are pulled, and we get after it. It’s pretty simple after all the hard work is done in the first 2 phases…
About Us

The desire to learn, grow and improve what we do is what drives me. Communicating this to my employees and subcontractors is my mission. Contracting sits at an interesting nexus between old and new worlds. Crafting wood, tile, and stone into beautiful objects has been done for centuries, and we respect the traditions of our craft. At the same time, technology has brought enormous opportunity for gains in productivity and communication. Combining increased productivity with effective communication, without sacrificing beauty and craftsmanship, is our goal.
